Retro Fit Double Glazing
The process of replacing the existing single glazing with IGUs (insulating glass units) is called Retrofit double glazing. It can reduce heat loss by up to 73% when compared to single glazing. It is a quick process with no significant visual differences. In a double glazed home, more comfortable temperature are felt all round the year.
Even a modern, well-insulated home, if it isn’t double glazed, you may still lose up to 50% of interior heat through single glazed windows. It is a cost effective method as it does require installation of new windows and saves up to 30-40% of the cost.
IGU solutions by Central Glass Service are purpose built for each home and meet the highest construction standards. An additional benefit of retrofit double glazing is that all materials can be colour matched to suit your existing window frames.
Double glazing types
Double glazed windows have huge benefits over single glazed windows. The different types of double glazing solutions vary, and Central Glass Service can help assist you in picking the right one for your needs and home.
Wooden & Timber retrofit
As New Zealanders we love the look and feel of our beautiful old character homes, and maintaining that character is important – especially when it comes to the windows. Wooden-framed windows have an almost magical appeal, while at the same time they can be cold and drafty - sucking out expensive heat, and letting in drafts and noise– not to mention the endless wiping required due to condensation.
Aluminium Retrofit
Do you have aluminium frame windows? We’ve got you covered. As Retro-Fit double glazing specialists, Central Glass Service can install IGUs into any existing aluminium frame of any size, shape and finish. The best thing about this solution is that there will be no visible change to the windows and the look of your house will remain the same. The real difference will be in the maintained temperature of your house.
Retro-Fit for Aluminium-Framed Windows
Use of aluminium-framed windows is usually standard in modern and recently built homes. Double glazing solution is easy as the existing beads can be replaced by the manufacturer’s double glazing beads. If any technicalities are faced, Central Glass Service will work with our specialist suppliers to provide a multi-fit retaining bead and where necessary to fit new opening sashes. The new sashes and beads are powder-coated or anodised to closely match the colour of the existing window frames.
The process and methodology is quite simple. Central Glass Service will measure your windows, and set a date to install the new units. Negligible or minute differences would be seen only if observed closely in the windows after the installation. The main difference will be in the maintained temperature of your home and increase in your comfort. We have yet to find a customer who hasn’t been impressed with the results of double glazing.
Retro-Fit for Timber Framed Windows
If the windows have a wooden frame or a timber joinery, a special Retro-Fit adapter is used or the joinery is altered to accept the double glazed unit. This will not only retain the look and feel of your house but will remove any chance of damp windows. The IGUs can be fitted in timber windows of any size and shape and do not affect or compromise on the look. The team of experts at Central Glass Service have extensive experience in double glazing installations for both household and commercial properties.
Double glazing effectiveness is measured in R-Values. The MBIE’s R-Values information can be viewed on their website.
